Mother Nursing Baby with Calla Lily Halo

Handcrafted in Oaxaca, Mexico by Estela Aguilar. She is the daughter of master ceramicist Concepción Aguilar and the niece of the late legendary folk artist Josefina Aguilar. 

A tender piece of Mexican folk art: a hand-modeled clay woman in an orange dress with painted yellow flowers, cradling a nursing baby in a black rebozo dotted with white. Behind her, a halo of white calla lilies with yellow-and-red centers and deep green leaves frames her braided crown. Natural terracotta skin tones and matte paint give it the warmth of traditional ceramic folk art. Each piece is handmade, so no two are exactly alike.
