Gather: Make: Shelter
Join Gather:Make:Shelter in celebrating and experiencing The Joy Project at Cargo: Re-Envisioning Portland with Love. The Joy Project features an installation of ceramic house sculptures donated by artist Thomas Orr and painted by 100 artists experiencing houselessness. Each house expresses a unique and creative vision for home and belonging in our city!
Participants have been paid for their work at citywide workshops and they donated the finished houses for an exhibition and festival that took place this summer at Pioneer Courthouse Square activating the plaza with a 600-square-foot installation in collaboration with architect Miles Woofter from Woofter Bolch Architecture.
The Joy Project brings together a network of artists, nonprofit organizations and artists experiencing houselessness to reimagine the city of Portland.
Each house will be for sale individually with proceeds supporting organizations that provide services for people experiencing houselessness, nurturing a culture of mutual support.
