Orly Avineri- The Spirit of Things
Social media has its advantages, Patty met Orly through Instagram!
Patty tells us that she was just stunned by her images, attracted to the timelessness. Patty attended a workshop with Orly in early 2020, not long before we closed down, and maintains it helped her get through the past year. Inspired by the workshop & connection Patty made with Orly, Patty began a daily practice she called “a page a day”.
We sat down recently to discuss setting up a workshop at Cargo, and Orly took us through her story of how she came to creating and guiding others. Orly opened by telling us that she was “born out a tumbleweed”, and in less than 10 minutes of chatting, we were in the depth of feelings. Orly is a great storyteller, she brings you on a journey and it naturally triggers your own remembering.
Orly has been hosting workshops for the past 10 years either in her home or on location around the US. Because of Covid Orly has reluctantly, yet successfully, started doing online workshops. Orly believes deeply that we ALL have stories and the capacity to create. By tactile movement and without intention, she believes that the intentions we set, limit us. She tells us that “setting intentions works against what we need. I say don’t have a plan, listen to what is needed instead”
She guides her class participants to the endpoint of expression with prompts and through the transformation of materials, driving you closer to your own voice. She is a proponent of using materials with a story to help you create what you are supposed to be creating. Orly encourages us all to “be by yourself, be in the mud, this is your world & you have control”
Cargo is proud to announce that we are hosting Orly for a two day bookmaking experience, on July 19th & 20th. Only a few spaces left so sign up today!
